Sinus Nasal Spray



Sinus infections are among the most commonly-occurring healthcare issue among people across all ages. The sinus cavity forms an integral part of the body's respiratory system since it is amongst the first surfaces that make contact with the inhaled air. Once the sinuses are irritated, they get easily inflamed and the resulting complications often spread to the surrounding parts of the body, like the eyes, ears and the throat. Most sinus infections tend to have a mucus secretion wherein the infected sites tend to over-produce a mucus-like substance. The mucus is actually a form of protecting coating excreted by the body but it causes swelling, resulting in the typical headaches that are associated with sinus infections.

Use of Nasal Sprays

Sinus nasal sprays are very effective in controlling such inflammations. Since the droplets of the formulation within the spray container are dispensed almost directly into the nasal cavity, the medication is able to act faster. This is typically true for seeking relief from sinus nasal congestion and headaches induced due to blocked nasal cavities. The nasal spray can be a mixture of various formulations, some typically home-based remedies while the others are more contemporary, i.e. medically-formulated. The simplest form of a nasal spray is a saline solution spray. This can be used for repeated usage throughout the day without worrying for overdosing. Saline is essentially a mixture of some salts in water and a trace amount of scented/aromatic ingredients which upon inhaling act as the fastest form of decongestion.

Nasal Spray Working

Most nasal sprays sold as OTC sprays contain a chemical that helps to constrict the blood vessels along the inner lining of the nose. This is vital because the constriction effect causes more flow of blood towards the nose, helping to open-up the clogged nasal cavities. Due to allergic reactions, the vessels are often bloated and choked with mucus. The presence of swollen blood vessels and the mucus blockage produces the typical 'plugged feeling' within the nose. When more blood is directed towards the nose, the nasal membranes are indirectly stimulated to restrict their secretion of mucus, relieving the irritating symptoms.
